First Lusophone Congress on Organizational Behavior and Management

There are about 250 Million people speaking Portuguese in the world, with a patrimonial and cultural heritage that unites different peoples and nations for several centuries. The common patrimony of Lusophony is spread throughout all the world continents – from Asia to Africa, from South America to Europe. In addition, it is today recognized worldwide the growing role of Lusophone countries and regions in the international economic and social scene, as is the case of Brasil, Angola and Macau.

“ORGANIZATIONS AND MANAGEMENT: THE LUSOPHONE WAY”

Lisbon, ISCSP/UTL, 06-08 October, 2011

CONFERENCE CALL

There are about 250 Million people speaking Portuguese in the world, with a patrimonial and cultural heritage that unites different peoples and nations for several centuries. The common patrimony of Lusophony is spread throughout all the world continents – from Asia to Africa, from South America to Europe. In addition, it is today recognized worldwide the growing role of Lusophone countries and regions in the international economic and social scene, as is the case of Brasil, Angola and Macau.

Despite this greatness as well as the economic and geopolitics importance of the Portuguese-speaking countries in the world, we still know little about what distinguishes the management and organizational practices in the Lusophone countries from those which are practiced in nations with different cultural and historic roots, as is the case of Anglophone and Francophone countries. As such, this is the core call of this first Lusophone Congress on Organizational Behavior and Management.

Although papers, workshops and symposia from the diverse traditional areas in organizational behavior and management are welcome, proposals emphasizing the specificities of management in lusophone contexts are particularly incentivized. We aim to better understand what is the “lusophone way” in management and organization. This concerns both the specific management practices in organizations working in lusophone countries as well as those of managers managing in different international contexts but originally coming from lusophone countries.

We count on you on this unique stage to understand which are the most distinct features of organizational behavior and management in the context of the Portuguese-speaking countries.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Manuscripts are accepted in Portuguese, English or French. Full papers or extended abstracts are both accepted, and theoretical and methodological heterogeneity are incentivized (i.e., theoretical or empirical contributions, quantitative and qualitative methodologies …).  The manuscripts should not exceed 7000 words and the extended abstracts should have between 1500 and 3000 words. The writing code should follow the APA style. The manuscripts can come  from any organizational behavior or management area including (but not limited to) strategy, leadership, organizational culture, organizational change and development, power and control, human resource management, international management, operations management, marketing and consumer behavior, entrepreneurship, innovation management, public management, not-for-profit organizations management, among others. The presentations will be grouped by the Organizing Committee according to their affinity. Each participant will have about 15 minutes to present the work, followed by a short debate time.

CALL FOR WORKSHOPS

The proposals to organize a practical and applied workshop can be submitted in Portuguese, English or French. Workshops will last for 90 minutes. The proposals to organize a workshop must have between 500 and 1000 words and must specify: (1) the title of the workshop, (2) the workshop coordinators, (3) the purpose and relevance of the workshop, and (4) an abstract of the activities that will be developed in the session.

CALL FOR SYMPOSIA

Thematic symposia proposals can be submitted in Portuguese, English or French. Symposia will last for 90 minutes. The goal of the symposia is to group a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 communications referring to the same theme in which the conveners successfully approve for the Congress. The proposals to organize a symposium require as mandatory the participation of speakers from at least two different countries, one of them originally from a Portuguese-speaking country. The proposals to organize a symposium must contain: (1) the title of the symposium, (2) the identification of the conveners, (3) an abstract with between 500 and 100 words, explaining the aim and relevance of the symposium, and (4) the abstracts of the communications to be presented in the symposium, with a maximum of 300 words for each of the abstracts.
